hi, hey, hello.

SSID

In light of my recent computer malfunctions, I supped up my wireless internet access at the luxurious Foxcroft Condominiums. -- Yeah I switched from a free wireless router with no security to a $10 one with all the bells and whistles.

The best part: i got to name it!! None of that Netgear or 2WIRE crap that most companies make you stick with to brand themselves. Nope, not me. My internet is now affectionately found in the wireless connections list as .... RedPanda

Why? Here are a few reasons ... 1.The most adorable creature ever.
2. it is also commonly referred to as the 'shining cat'
3. they are listed as 'vunerable' on the endangered species list

viral infection

AGAIN...

once again my poor computer has fallen victim to a viral infestation of who-knows-what from the Internet. this marks 3 computers in 6 years that have bit the dust do to circumstances mainly out of my control. the first computer, sure i was downloading from an unsafe musical 'borrowing' site here and there, but i learned my lesson after the screen of death invaded my main page. the second computer caught some nasty postpartum GA virus just as i got to los angeles. AND since i had learned my lesson, i didn't do any crazy downloading, and kept my antivirus software up to date like it was my religion.

Apparently hackers are getting more sophisticated ... which seems to be correlating with me becoming more broke. Honestly people, don't you realize that if you steal my bank info then crash my computer that there is only less money for you to then steal from me because I'm being asked to spend $199 to get my old comp back, $350 to get a new laptop, or pondering the $1,000 for a mac book that doesn't fall victim to your antics.

the nasty virus that my laptop has

I think the most frustrating part is that I read how to get rid of it, followed all the directions, had my computer running great for 2 days, then BAMMMM. Computer no longer turns on. Uhhhh ... yeah.

8.10.2010

get noticed

Excited to hear one of my current ipod fav workout/drive with the windows down songs on the radio today!

8.06.2010

ten minutes of me

Walked in the door from work tonight right before the sky let loose. Decided to enjoy the moment and uncorked a bottle of wine, grabbed my book, slid open the ridiculously heavy balcony door and swigged wine from the bottle while I finished the last 5 chapters in my book and watched it storm intensely. Thanks GA weather, I needed that.

8.04.2010

this or that

to hair cut or not to hair cut, that is the question.

ive been cutting my own hair since i moved to LA and now back to GA ... it currently looks like

and i'm debating on going back to the older look of the side bang/sweep...

(without the cat ears, of course)

Yup, I realize it's stupid to blog about a hair cut option, but I needed something light and airy to break up the philosophical posts!

8.01.2010

fumes

It's simple really:

Food : Chelsea :: Gas : Mazda

(Yes, as my speedometer indicates, I took this as i was driving 40 mph down the road to immediately stop at the 1st gas station I saw)

projects galore

Plays wasted words, proves to warn that he not busy being born is busy dying.
-- Bob Dylan

With the move,  the new roommate(s) --hoping for a 2nd by tomorrow evening!, and working full time, I've got real little down time. Needless  to say it has taken about 15x longer to resettle in my niche here in Foxcroft. I am finding that there are so many things I want to complete to return my house into its former "home" status and that there are just not enough hours in the day nor dollars in the bank!

What I've currently tackled .. (bear with here)

My room/office/study corral ... the partition is mainly so that I don't feel like my new roommates have total access to my living quarters when I'm home if they want to do laundry. My bed FiNALlY has a box spring, mainly in part to my step dad being the only person who responded to my text messages today (with exception .. but he was too late).  Any way, all of these areas need a little love ... for example .. the study corral (aka my desk).
Diplomas, check. Computer, check. Clutter, check. Actually to have used it as a desk, un-check.

On to the main rooms, because my room is well uhh, not as complete. Well, neither is the dining room ... or all of the living room,  but man, that one small portion of the living room is stellar!
The only part of my house that I feel is cozy so far.

So it's all a work in progress. Next update coming soon ... THE DINING ROOM... yikes. (This will not be taking place until alllllllllll the boxes make it to the dumpster and I have all the negative to the photos I want to hang.. could be awhile people, so don't hold your breath)

Wish upon a star

Today I wish that I was here.

but I'll stay right where I'm at anxiously awaiting the call from a person I love dearly to find out if Baby R is a he or a she!!!

7.27.2010

waiting it out

Moving.
we've all done it.
the boxes. the schlepping of the heavy, cumbersome, and then the mystery of opening each one to find things you forgot you had or wish you didn't.

So what is it that motivates us to keep straining, stressing, and relocating?
For most of us it's the ongoing pursuit of happiness -- whether it's to be closer to friends and family, to be with a loved one, or to further your education. Most importantly, I believe it's about finding a place where you just know you are supposed  to be.

Currently my former LA roommate is learning the art of higher education paired with a brand new city -- I know the feeling, and I can only empathize with the roller coaster she's about to experience! The most difficult part of a new place, space, and no familiar face (yeah, that rhymes and it wasn't intentional) is learning to cope with the silence around you and the endless shouting that comes from inside -- and no I don't hear voices!

So over the past few years of trying to balance the silence with noise Ive started collecting the cards, scraps, and photos that really just make me smile. One that I always go back to is a card that I got in the first month I lived alone in Los Angeles. It was the first real mail I got after all the people who made me feel sane filtered back to GA.

It wasn't a "You can do it" or an "I miss you" card, but more a 'you've been on my mind", "let me share my life experience with you" and a reminder why I was doing what I was doing card. It made my month then and again it brightened my day when I happened across it again unpacking a week or so ago.

I am a firm believer that life needs more moments that stumbling across the simplest of cards can bring.

Miss you!

hurts to be so right

All day yesterday my leg couldn't shake the awesome stabbing, throbbing, pins and needles aching that is likes to  put me through 16 hrs before it rains. I left the mountains around ... ooohhh 2pm yesterday talking to my mom about how  excited I was to drive home in intense amounts of knee pain. I got home, curled up on the sofa with a bottle of Rx Ibuprofen and waited for it to pass. Driving home from work today it was 5:30 --- 15.5 hrs from when my leg started throbbing --- and this is what it looked like ...
(Roswell Rd and Abernathy Intersection)

5 minutes later, downpour. Thunder. Lighting.  The whole nine. I like being right and all, but COME ON!!!!!

comin' round the mountain

welcome to the coziest, most serene place on earth:

(the back deck)

My parents  bought this cabin right before the winter of .... 2005? Anyhow, it's by far one of my favorite places and holds some of my favorite memories  - most which are with the crazy friends I've taken up there. Things like Spring Break 2007, The 'Danger Scale', and copious amounts of coffee, biking, hot tubbing, and alcohol.

Some of my favorite memories to date ....

And now for one of my favorite NEW memories
I am absolutely fascinated by his ability to learn and grow everyday. His amazement to life inspires me to slow down and take it all in.

full steam ahead

Ever have those days where you just don't feel like you're firing on all cylinders?

Not the bad days, but the days you feel like you are holding onto a leaky life preserver and the only thing that will patch it is a cup of coffee and a sofa? Or a bottle of cheap -- but delicious -- red wine.

Today was that day for me. I had a fantastic night last night and an easy, learning-filled morning at work. But couldn't get myself into full gear. It was almost like my body was tooo relaxed and couldn't keep up with my brain. I think I need a break from the fast pace to collect and recharge. Can anyone say cabin? Saturday?
Deal.

Luck of the ... Scottish?

Today was a great Monday. In fact, the greatest Monday since I decided to rent a car and drive to all of the crazy amazing places that Scotland has to offer. Maybe it's because Sunday was such a relaxing Sunday? I got a roommate (she seems chill  but ambitious, like me)  then hung out with my nephew, and I actually got a full nights sleep! Today was a slow start to morning at work, but it picked up like you would expect a Monday to do. My lunch break came and went with me doing triage evaluations instead of left overs in the break room. Made it through the rest of the day no sweat, then got in a good sweat at the gym. Now .... reminiscing about Scotland.

One fish, two fish

Happy 1/2 birthday to my crazy adorable nephew! His real birthday is two days before Christmas, so me being the way cool Aunt that I am decided that he would get a bday gift from me in the summer instead. (okay, so his actual half birthday was June 23rd, but i was out of town).

To celebrate his being 1.5 we went to the GA Aquarium. It was precious and I loved every minute of his shock & awe and  teaching him new things about ocean life. Love him!

7.16.2010

Zzzzzzz's

(mock sleeping while running amuck in Cambridge)

I'm a night owl. And a morning person. I've always thrived off of very little sleep and been a very alert, healthy, functioning individual. I can't tell if it's my mind has gone into hyper-drive or if my body at it's ridiculously young, but beat up, age of 24 is fed up. I trrry to get more sleep. I'll get in bed at 10pm, set my alarm for 6am, then at 3:30 I'm wide awake just laying there. Really? Really. Going on 2 weeks of this nonsense now and my brain can't take it. Literally.

Life got flipped, turned upside down

Hi online world of 4 (probably less now), good news ... I'm still kicking! It's been a while, a long while.

I've got so much to rehash, share, and vent about. Priority one: I still don't have internet, so while this post is a long time coming, the next one might be a few more days. Now, as nice as it has been to distance myself from the facebooks and Row2k constant updates, not having access to the world wide web makes finding roommates, comparing internet rates, and even studying for my rotation at Georgia Hand, Shoulder & Elbow quite difficult. I love my Droid, but not trying to browse the internet everyday all day on it.

As far as where I've been and where I am ... I  am currently back in Foxcroft -- my cozy little condo in Sandy Springs, GA. In the last 6 weeks I have been in Sacramento, Skellytown Texas, Oklahoma City, Los Angeles, London, Cambridge, Warwick, Henley-on-Thames, Keswick (the home of Beatrix Potter!), Scotland's highlands and St Andrews ... it's been nuts and I love every minute of it. Traveling is good for my soul.

5.29.2010

bahh

holy crap have i been busy ...

5.09.2010

the crazies

So in this calm moment of sunday night, I feel like I should be doing something more to prepare for the next 3 weeks to come. Chaos. Chaos that I fully intend to try to enjoy every moment of. This week alone I have to finish planning the end of season crew banquet for our so far 82 guest ... which still needs some serious TLC. My parents land on Thursday, the banquet is Thursday night, graduation is all day Friday, graduation dinner at Spark Woodfire Grill (which thankfully still had reservations available!), then Saturday AM I leave for sacramento where the crew will compete in the PCRC's and PAC-10 Championships. Straight from that race I leave with the trailor -- which I will be partly driving!! -- to go to ACRA Club National Championships in OK. So many exciting things and not enough to process how quickly they will be gone and I'll be back in GA ... oh wait, yes there is. 22 days!!!

5.06.2010

Seeeeeeee ya bike!

5.05.2010

baby sis

So my little sister is definitely all grown up ... in fact, too grown up. I'm 24 and she's 17 ... she looks 24 and I look, ehh 19? 20? Irregardless, we had a blast while she was visiting me in LA. We toured the Griffith Observatory, ate at some claim to fame mexican place called Don Antonio's, did the USC Senior Fountain Run together, spent some time at LA Live and at Hermosa Beach and Santa Monica Promenade. So glad she was able to make it out here before I MOVE HOME IN 27 DAYS!!!!

Love her. Miss her. Can't wait till we don't live an entire ocean apart again! Foxcroft, anyone??

4.27.2010

down & dirty

The 2010 Merrell Down & Dirty Mud Run was awesome! There were so many fun aspects to the event, minus my inability to run uphills. By  the first 1/4 mile, you were covered in mud. Spectacular! The professions were on site taking pics of the challenges, but until then ... enjoy these!

4.21.2010

if you want to destroy my sweater

Finally updated the Droid cell phone case! AND I LOVE IT... regardless that someone told me it looked like an argyle sweater threw up. Come on, it's cheap, it's obnoxious, it's green, and it's argyle!!!!

Also, on another note, new fav song of the day: Temper Trap's Sweet Disposition

4.18.2010

rules are meant to be broken

I have exactly 6 days to come up with a cool costume for my Down and Dirty Mud Run next sunday which proceeds go to help Operation Gratitude to keep up the spirits of our troops overseas

Guidelines say:
Think you’ve got what it takes to wow the crowd? Well then put your creativity to the test by suiting up for the Merrell Down & Dirty Costume Contest! Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 costumes as voted on by YOU, the crowd on race morning. Break out those wigs, wings, make-up and get ready to strut your stuff! First place wins $500, Second place wins $250 and Third place wins $100! An additional prize of $150 will be awarded to the best locally themed costume - starting in Los Angeles where the appropriate theme is, of course, “Hollywood”! For all you Spidermen, Marilyn Monroes or John Waynes get ready to strike a pose and walk away with a great prize. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

So far my best options have been spray paint myself as an Oscar, make leg holsters and go as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, or wear my wet suit and be scuba steve!

Any thoughts??

4.16.2010

sweet darlin'

As much as it makes me cringe to be called or hear ppl called 'darlin', I love this song. (And wish I could pull off the intensely hot, stoic vibe that Zooey Deschanel can...)

When I was a little bit younger
The strain I was under could make me cry
Now I’m a little bit older,
A little bit bolder
Never so shy

Sweet darlin’, come hold me,
Just a little bit longer now
Sweet darlin’, come hold me,
Just a little bit longer now

When things were a little bit clearer
When you got nearer
I shrugged from your touch
Now that I know what I want, see,
I think that it haunts me,
I want you too much

4.14.2010

you can have it, if you want it, anyways

So now that the mega crazy hype has started to calm down about the healthcare bill, I feel like it is safe for me to say that I DON'T GET IT.

I am an over educated person, who tries to keep up with the important moves our government takes, especially when my profession is situated in the heart of it. I have watched the news, read the articles, even tried reading portions of the bill, and I am still lacking to grasp the magnitude of the initiative.

I know that our country deserves healthcare, but I'm not sure that this is the way to do it. Ideally, I think that I am behind a universal healthcare system, but not so much what is going on here. Thankfully there are enough years in between each stage to work out the kinks and amend the draft, but man is it overwhelming. I wish that they would publish an 'Idiots Guide to Healthcare Reform' published by an entirely biased party. I believe that there are good things in the package, but I also know that there are things that I am not behind. It's really difficult to get straight answers ... especially living in CA as a conservative.

4.12.2010

shine from the inside

just when i think my day is shot ...otheR thAn dR. mcHandsome ... i find this link in my inbox. puuuuurfect.

I feel adorable.

And drugged.

what's up doc

Went to the health center today since I had to get an updated TB test placed for my health clearances and decided that while I was in the office I'd make an appearance in front of Doctor McHandsome. I went and talked to him about the insane pain that my jaw is experiencing and how it makes me want to avoid people. So, he kindly did an exam of my jaw -- which was the best part of my day -- then wrote me an Rx for Percocet, a steroid, and a night guard. So here I sit medicated beyond belief and loving the relief that Dr. Skripkus has brought to my life.

4.10.2010

what a pain in the ...

So apparently once again I am carrying anxiety in my jaw. Yeah the uncontrollable pain has caused me to blog about how miserable I have been sleeping and that I unknowingly  have started to clinch my jaw in my sleep. Same thing happened about 3 weeks before I moved to CA. Maybe it's got something to do with moving? Maybe it's the stress of graduations? Maybe it's the stress of logistics of my life! Either way, I'm really ready for it to stop. It's gotten to the point where it is controlling my mood and affecting my ability to get work done. For instance, last night I started one of my papers... 20 min later I was in bed, medicated and hugging a heat pack. BAaaaAh.

But on another note, I am making good progress on my studies!

4.07.2010

fourteen

First round of American Collegiate Rowing Association club rankings came out today ... USC's Varsity 8 is ranked 14th in the nation! Heeeeck ya.

4.06.2010

four-luck

I'm growing four leaf clovers for luck! Luck for what .. who knows? Life? Sure! Anyhow, they're FINALLY starting to grow. -- Doesn't help that kitties keep knocking them out of the window ...

4.04.2010

strewn from coast to coast

I love argyle. I love my nephew. But mostly I love them paired together!!!

that's the life

So since my last post about how I'm going to be an overly studious graduate student from now until April 30th, I have done ..... nothing. (Well, i finished my take home midterm that night, so maybe that counts?) Yesterday I spent an entire afternoon enjoying a birthday gift of a day at Burke Williams spa. It was incredible. I spent the first hour there on a cycle of water, iced towel, and steam room to lemonade and misting room .. then repeat. Somewhere in between the steam and the mist there was a jacuzzi, a shower, and a 20 min nap with the whole cucumber/eye experience, THEN an 80 min 'deluxe' massage. It was a day of heaven. And it was great to not speak to anyone or think about anything for an entire afternoon/night and walk around in just a towel and slippers for 5 hrs.

SO today's agenda is by 10am (7 min from now) I will have my coffee refill in my mug, my music set up, and my kitchen table transformed into a study corral. Ready go!

4.02.2010

who said there is more to life than this

and if you saw how i dealt

28 days until no more classes. Which means for the next 3 weeks I am going to transform myself into the most studious student ever. Late night note cards, re-reading old class material, and getting a jump on my several assignments. (By jump I mean getting them done by the due dates ... )

So starting ...... after this post .... it's time to put on my graduate school game face and get to business. -- Man that doesn't sound fun -- So I leave you with this ...

3.31.2010

in daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee

8 weeks. Holy-- 8 weeks -- Crap. It's officially in 8 weeks from today my lease will be up in my apt in LA and I will be in my car driving back to my condo in GA. I'm really ready to move home ..
... but my to-do list, not so much.

8 weeks means 1 midterm, 2 papers, 2 presentation, and my USC OT Comprehensive Exam to graduate ... AND 5 more regattas, 1 fundraiser, 1 banquet to plan ... AND packing, selling my furniture, and finding someone to drive back to GA with me.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

but it also means JACKSON!!!!

3.30.2010

Crew Classic

The San Diego Crew Classic has become one of the largest regattas in the Nation. It is an all Eight's rowing regatta that draws over 3,000 competitors in 96 races with over 5,000 spectators. It's a massively awesome weekend of good early boat races. For USC this year, our V8 ended up in the middle lane in the fastest heat in the first race of the day. (Lane 1 has an atrocious advantage being protected from current and wind by the shore line). Our guys pretty much rowed like crap the first race. -- Sorry boys, but it's the truth -- So we ended up in the Petite Finals. All 6 boats in our final had finished within 3 seconds of each other, so it certainly wasn't going to be an easy feat. Thankfully the second race was a much better showing. USC held the lead until the 1350 mark, which proves the boat speed is there, and all of our race day performance issues are just mental! (Sheesh).

Outside of the races, most of my day was spent hanging out in the Beer Garden with the likes of Mike Holbrook, Elliot Hays, James Long-lerno and his cool fiance Candice, and Erin Cafaro to name a few to make myself seem way cooler than I really am. Also introduced myself to GT's head coach and announced my moving back to GA in June. It was a promising conversation, and he at least knows I exist now.

All in all, stellar weekend. Now back to work. Midterm yesterday. Midterm friday. Papers, projects... and COMPS in 34 days. Holy crap.

3.23.2010

speak slowly, i can't hear you

Spring "break" came, went, and is gone. All I have to show for my last "break" from college (EVER!) is a bunch of new freckles. Now i know that freckles are the first sign of sun damage, but man do i love them.  I have 3 favorites. --which yes is weird -- but all the same.

Biology of freckles: Freckles can be found on anyone no matter their genetic background; however, having freckles is genetic MC1R gene variant. The formation of freckles is triggered by exposure to sunlight. The exposure to UV-B radiation activates melanocytes to increase melanin production, which can cause freckles to become darker and is related to the presence of the dominant melanocortin-1 receptor

3.19.2010

One to grow on

ONLY ONE MORE DAY LEFT.

While I have absolutely no complaints about getting tan aka freckles, being in OC for a week, not being in classes, and not being stuck in Los Angeles .... I am so happy that tomorrow at 7pm I can begin my decent back into the physical, emotional, and mental routine of my life. It's been a long week.

Just one more practice and this fundraiser that I planned to get through.

Oh, and I'm just going to come out and say it b/c it's been consuming my thoughts for 2 days .. my father is now on facebook. Which wouldn't be so awkward if it hadn't been 15 years since the last time I saw or spoke to him. I was nine. Good times.

3.16.2010

Diam Dos

Yeah, day 2.Survived.

Took mazda to be fixed. New spark plugs, spark plug boots, spark plug coils and wires.$370 out the door and i can pick her up tomorrow in between my morning and afternoon practices. -- so much for the new camera lens i wanted to buy --

Getting more sun than expected. My legs looked maimed from the horrific part of the Redwood trip. Great and interesting seat racing from the Varsity today.Novices FINALLLY look like rowers. And got a great free BBQ dinner from an incredibly generous and kind family. (Delicious).

it's just gross how many bruises and cuts there are ... apologies for sharing haha

3.15.2010

spring training

Day 1:
7am:Drive to Newport Beach. Get coffee at C'est Si Bon.
9am: Oversee the rigging of our fleet of 8's, 4's and pairs.
10am - 12pm: Row. aka get a tan on the coaching launch b/c it was already 70deg
12:30: attempt a run in the heat ... uphill
12:50: fail
1pm: Body circuits, shower, and lunch!
2:30-4: Rows. aka turn pink from UV rays despite copious amts of spf

All in all, nice day. Can't ask for nicer weather and a nicer venue. On  the menu tomorrow: get my car fixed!! it keeps shutting off at stop lights. never a good sign. poor mazda, it's been through a lot lately.

3.14.2010

the desert brought news from the west

the last week was such a crazy adventure, i dont really know how to recap the amazing time i had with some really great people. i have no photos (working on it) and no real grand words to describe the week, so bare with.

picked up one of my best friends, his best friend, and another good friend at the airport on Sunday night and Monday morning. did some very Los Angelian things: In-n-out, hiked to the observatory, Diddy Reice, finally ate at Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. Got a few hours of sleep, then headed out to Redwood National Park. Word to the wise, NoSnooze is not NoDose ... just say no.

14 hrs later we made it to Redwood. Sam took some really great shots in Fern Canyon then we set off for a hike. Umm ... this is were it gets hard to really be specific, so all you're going to get is one word sentences ... Hiking. Elk. Chase. Lost. Marsh. Rain. Dark. Rain. Lost. Freezing. Numb. Marsh. Ocean. Hand-holding. Beach. Freezing. Lights. Campsite. Strip. Car. Heat.
Lets just say that I have a new appreciation for great friends and new friends.. even though Harrison kept playing out scenarios that I'd be the first one to be eaten.

Since we lost a good bit of time roaming the forest, we decided to skip LA and head straight to Vegas! With a car full of soaking wet clothes and barely enough dry layers left to stay warm, we hit up Goodwill on the route to Vegas. For under 12 bucks I got a dress, shoes, and jacket and for under 20 spent then evening with 2 smokin' hot gentlemen in suits! Stayed at Planet Hollywood in Vegas and finally learned a little more about Roulette. Can't say i had the greatest luck since I walked out in the red, but at least one of us walked away with a couple hundred extra bucks!

It was so great to have my friends out here again (and to make a new friend). It makes me feel like such more of a normal, non-isolated human being. Apparently I am growing more quiet and less social the older I get ... I should work on that... or embrace it. So, to my friends .. THANK  YOU for sharing in such a great adventure with me and I'm looking forward to spending more time with you guys when I move back to GA in June.

Photos soon, swear.

3.13.2010

Sisters

Wow, so it's been one hell  of  a crazy week, but before I move onto recaping the escapades of GSU's spring break, I wanted  to comment on the birthday card my sister sent me. I really thought it was us!

Here's the card image:

And a few of my sis and I  as kids:

birfday review, the best and worst

SOOOOOO, I actually had a really great birthday! One of my very best friends and gang booked plane tix to come visit me all next week, I got a few incredibly generous gifts from some very thoughtful and caring friends (who know me well!) I got to have a very great skype date with my very handsome 1 year old nephew. Who blew me kisses and melted my heart.

and since my 2-4 birfday fell on a Sunday, I had to wait till today to get my bday cards from the family. I get home from 6 hours of class and there is my mail ... opened... monies missing ... Yup, the post office stole my bday money from my mom. (I was fuming earlier, but now I'm just mad!) But I did get four incredible cards. 1 from my nephew! 1 from my mom, and 2 from my sister! One of the cards has an image of 2 girls hugging and it is ridiculous how much they look like her and i as kids!  I'll post it later on with a nice blast from the past photo.

All in all, hoping that 24 is way better than 23.
